03.20.09 UPDATE: A new version of Song For Sus has been uploaded to the site. Mick Hartman works his magic on guitar.

01.20.09 I've been making a point to carve out more time for composing and recording, so I've finally finished a piece. It's called Song For Sus. I actually recorded the piano part about six years ago in one of the UMKC practice rooms. I looped it and added drums and bass, but I didn't do anything with it after that. Last month I was going through some old projects and found what I recorded, tossed it into Pro Tools and went from there. It just goes to show you that it's worth saving those snippets of ideas, they might come in handy later. Download Song For Sus. Enjoy.

07.25.08 So, a few months back my M-Audio ProjectMix I/O control/interface crapped out on me, and after weeks of going back and forth convincing tech support that it was a hardware issue, and nearly four more weeks of being without it whilst it was being worked on, I've finally got it back. Fortunately Pro Tools worked with my Delta cards even though it was originally bundled with the ProjectMix, so the studio was not completely shut down.

I'm still learning Pro Tools, which is a little different than Audition/Cool Edit, which I had been using for years. I still prefer Audition for fine editing and mastering, but Pro Tools definitely has it's strong points. I really like finally being able to record MIDI and audio in one program, which is nothing new to the world of multi-track recording. But the Adobe folks held out for so long introducing MIDI functions into the program and when they finally did, it was only as a weak plug-in with limited capabilities.

I really blame the people who keep whining that Audition should have no MIDI functions at all, which is and has been the reason why Adobe has been dragging their feet implementing it. I can't see what these people are worried about, the MIDI functions could be totally non-intrusive if you didn't want to use them. Incorporating MIDI into Audition would make it a better program and would introduce a new host of users who might not have considered Audition before. Anyway, I do feel strongly about this. I love Audition, and hope the Adobe/Syntrillium folks will keep improving on their superb product.

02.13.08 Well a lot has happened since the last post. We've been working on the house and I've been painting and remodeling the rooms that will be the new recording space. So, basically the studio will consist of a control room and a live room. I've upgraded some equipment and added some new mics to the collection. I'll also be getting into private teaching which I'm excited about. More on that later....
