07.25.08 So, a few months back my M-Audio
ProjectMix I/O control/interface crapped out on me, and after weeks
of going back and forth convincing tech support that it was a
hardware issue, and nearly four more weeks of being without it
whilst it was being worked on, I've finally got it back. Fortunately
Pro Tools worked with my Delta cards even though it was originally bundled with the
ProjectMix, so the studio was not completely shut down.
I'm still learning Pro Tools, which is a little
different than Audition/Cool Edit, which I had been using for years.
I still prefer Audition for fine editing and mastering, but Pro
Tools definitely has it's strong points. I really like finally being
able to record MIDI and audio in one program, which is nothing new
to the world of multi-track recording. But the Adobe folks held out
for so long introducing MIDI functions into the program and when
they finally did, it was only as a weak plug-in with limited
capabilities.
I really blame the people who keep whining that
Audition should have no MIDI functions at all, which is and has been
the reason why Adobe has been dragging their feet implementing it. I
can't see what these people are worried about, the MIDI functions
could be totally non-intrusive if you didn't want to use them.
Incorporating MIDI into Audition would make it a better program and
would introduce a new host of users who might not have considered
Audition before. Anyway, I do feel strongly about this. I love
Audition, and hope the Adobe/Syntrillium folks will keep improving
on their superb product.
02.13.08 Well a lot has
happened since the last post. We've been working on the house and
I've been painting and remodeling the rooms that will be the new
recording space. So, basically the studio will consist of a control
room and a live room. I've upgraded some equipment and added some
new mics to the collection. I'll also be getting into private
teaching which I'm excited about. More on that later....
